PAPER RENEWAL IN CURRENT ISSUE OF RN MAGAZINE
Paperless Licensing
Beginning with the next renewal cycle, the Board will implement a paperless licensing system, or a less paper licensing system. This means that registered professional nurses will receive a license this year that will be the permanent wallet license. A statement on the license will direct an individual wishing to verify the license status to the Board's web site. This will minimize the opportunity for fraud related to copying the license, and by assuring the most current license information is reviewed on the web site. An more detailed article is in the most recent news magazine that should have arrived last week at each registered nurse's mailing address on file with the Board. Please take time to read this article. If you or a registered nurse you know did not receive the news magazine, please contact the Board office to assure your current address is on file. It is a legal requirement to maintain a current address with the Board office.
If you have any questions, desire more information or did not receive the recent news magazine please e-mail us at wvrnboard@state.wv.us .
The Board's online verification system is maintained and controlled by the Board. The informtion is live and considered as a primary source for verification of this information. This information is not accessible to input from any other source. Notification of disciplinary action, if applicable, is posted to the site promptly.
PRIMARY SOURCE VERIFICATION:The WV RN website is considered primary source verification and is actually the preferred method of licensure validation instead of viewing the license card. License cards, which are an additional evidence of licensure, may take several days to arrive. If a licensee presents a paper license card that shows different information than you find on this verification system, immediately phone the WV RN Board office at 304-558-3596 or e-mail rnboard@state.wv.us to verify the information.
WV RN does primary source verification of an initial applicant's nursing education. This process requires a written request and a fee of thirty dollars ($30.00) in the form of a money order or cashiers check. Send the request to
